Penetration Cube | Handmade Lighting Sculpture

PENETRATION
is the design concept of this lighting design.

This lighting design is integrated with the case study, Soe Ker Tie House which located at Thailand. Penetration is definited as the mean of the light is able to penetrate from 1 place to another place. This is achieved by using the rope light that penetrate within the tube and then create a circulation.

Besides, penetration of light from the weave paper also shows another kind of meaning.
The weaving lighting scultpure are designed to educate the orphanage to learn about the words (alphabet).

‘Penetration’ is design to be movable where we can actually place it at anywhere and its 3 main plane (surface) can be base anytime. So, it is flexible and rotatable according to user's mood.

On the other hand, this project is promoting green and education since it is merge into the local design. It is sort of like camouflages to the building. In addition the designs of its plane also stimulate the curiosity of the orphanage as the light will change the surface pattern and texture.

This design used wire mesh as the main material where the paper can actually weave through it and then create various pattern of mood and lighting. The construction part is by folding the wire mesh into tube and hook it together by it owns wire. Weaving technique is used to show the lighting especially during daytime where we can actually see the shadow casting on the ground.

In addition, it can be placed at different place such as the entrance or even the ceiling corner. It can also play with colour and composition to show the variety and more interesting part of it. The design principle, grid organisation shows the strong geometrical system of this square and fair design. Datum, repetition and geometry also applied in this project in order to enhance the effect and mood.
